Hey John,
Just thought that I'd drop you a line and say that so far our trip to Korea had been wonderful. Our director/principle Julianne is fantastic and has
taken care us extremely well. Our vice-principle is also fantastic and is there to help us with every need that we might have. Our accommodations
and the school are brand new and amazing so Tyler and I are very excited to
start teaching here in Korea. Thanks for the great placement and all your
hard work,

Dear Maria,
Thank you for all your help. Everything seems fine although I believe it takes time to really get to know someone and build quality relationships. Hopefully I appear ok to the school but for the director to truly judge my ability and character will also take time.
All the best,

John,
I just wanted to thank you for your help in getting me
set up with the Orange School in Gunsan. The staff
have been very friendly and accomodating towards me.
The classrooms are small enough to build a repoir with
the children and they are great fun to work with. My
apartment is close enough to the school and I am able
to walk there in just a few minutes. This has been an
exciting trip so far and I am grateful for your help.
Thanks much,

Hi John
This is Karen C. from Mokpo teaching at Song Language Institute.
My year is up at the end of April and I will be coming back to Canada for the summer.
As you may not remember I also taught at the Mokpo National Maritime University last year and did very well. My picture has been used on their official website and in their advertising brochure.
I may decide to return to Korea in the fall of 2004 if I can get a really good teaching job at a University in Seoul. It would have to be a good university - I know there are several women's colleges there. I would teach the semester and come back to Canada in between.
I will have a great recommendation from my boss here at the Institute - Mr Song and the university.
Can you look into this for me? I know it is early yet but you may know of some of the Seoul universities and I know there are always looking for experienced teachers.
Thank you and hope things are going well for you.
I may be reached at my Mokpo email: kareninmokpo

Hello again!
I'm really happy with everything here, John. Everything has gone better than I ever imagined it could. Park Young mi has been very nice and extremely helpful in getting me settled. The school is great and well run. At this point I honestly can't think of a single complaint. Thanks for finding such a great school for me.

Hi John. This is Greg. My new school is like a paradise because I
finish early every day and the students are at a much higher level. I gave
my boss the book you wanted.
The only problem is that the previous teacher left the apartment a disaster, so
the other teachers have been helping me to clean up, but it is a brand new
apartment, maybe only 2 months old. So, everything is good with me.
How about you? my friend, the girl
you talked to before, is interested in working with you to find a job in Korea.
She will contact you soon. When you come to Korea next time maybe we can meet.
Thank you.

Dear John,
All is well here in Daegu. The teachers and children here are amazing! The teachers help me whenever I need it and the kids are so well behaved. I am very much enjoying my time here so far. Ding Ding Dang is a great school and the program allows me to be creative and personalise the lessons. A teacher's paradise! Hanging out with the other foreign teachers and meeting new ones when out and about is great fun. There are lots of them! Between socialising and teaching, homesickness is kept at bay. Thank you John for connecting me with Ding Ding Dang. Hope you are well and please keep in touch!

Hey John, just wanted to let you know that things have been going great in Daegu thus far. The culture is certainly different from Canada but the people here are extremely friendly and willing to help however they can.
Teaching has been a very rewarding experience and the kids, for the most part, have been well-behaved, curteous and willing to learn. The older kids are a little more difficult to control but being stern with them is definitely the way to get their attention.
I have met some great people in the two weeks I have been here and know that that will continue to happen. The nightlife here is very good and the price of beer is even better.
Thanks for all your help. Feel free to put any of your prospective recruits in touch with me if they have any questions. I will always be willing to speak with people so that they feel more comfortable with traveling abroad to Daegu.
You have my e-mail address already and my phone number 588-0739.

Hi John thanks for the quick note.
Korea is turning out to be a great experience. The school is very good and the
owner is excellent. I am also now teaching at the Mokpo National Maritime
University in the moorings. I have 300 students. This is in addition to my
regular hours at the school, so I am very busy. Almost 5 months have passed
since I first came here so the time is flying by. Hope your recruiting is going
well. Bye for now.

Hi John,
The job and the apartment are both fine, I am getting along well and getting to
know the city of Ulsan. It is very hard work so far, but it is also very
rewarding. I like a lot of Korean food, including the complimentary lunch that I
get here at OSS. I have learned a lot about teaching very quickly. Once again,
thankyou for your help.

#1 Dear John,
I had a great holiday except for the typhoon that hit. It was really scary as we were in a taxi during the storm but it was definitely something exciting to watch. Jeju-do is a beautiful island and it was well worth the trip there.
I have no problems with you putting my letter on your website and if you have
any further questions please contact me.
#2 Hi John!
Things so far are going well for me in Korea. The people that I'm working with are very nice. The school has a pleasant atmosphere and I enjoy the working hours. The people are very friendly and the Korean staff are very nice to us. The city is clean and our apartments okay. I've here only 2 weeks and I'm already very comfortable travelling around on my own. The buses are a little complicated but the suway stops are all in English. Chusock is this coming week and I'm going to Jeju-do for the holidays. I would recomend this school as they are friendly and reliable. If you are sending anyone to this school they can talk to me if they want. I also have a cell phone so can be easily reached

I have a question. My mom is getting really frustrated trying to call me,
she can't get the right numbers to get to my cell phone here.
Could you let

Then I will email my mom the numbers. I only talked to her on the phone

Just wanted to let you know how things are going in Daegu. The school that I am with is excellent, and the facilities are newly renovated. The staff is evenly mixed with Koreans and foreign teachers, and everyone has been both helpful and kind. It is located in a nice area of town, and the bus trip from my house takes around twenty minutes or so. As for the trip, my flight went well, and the school sent a teacher to pick me up at the airport which was a releif. I was dropped that night right to my door. The twelve hour flight really bagged me though haha. The apartment I was given is really nice, with two bedrooms, nice windows, and new flooring. So basically everything is going well so far, I just wanted to write and let you know how much I appreciate your patience and professionalism through the entire process. Thanks again, and I'll update you again soon

Hi John,
Consider my permission granted. Anything I can do to help.
Something you may also add to the letters from teachers section is how much I appreciated your availability. Co-ordinating teachers and schools is difficult with such a difference in time zones, and I'm sure you keep some pretty strange hours. In fact, I'm not sure when you have time to sleep at all. Nevertheless, you always kept me abreast of any developments in my placement as soon as you received them. I appreciated this very much. Also, you were always prompt to return my calls on the odd times when I could not reach you. So, feel free to put in any of this information you want.
I'm having a great time here. Gerard Hennesy is a great roommate, by the way, so thanks for sending him our way. Neil, too, is enjoying himself thoroughly. We went for bulgogi at a friend's place out in the country yesterday and played with changssu-haneul-so (the giant insects) all night. Thanks for all your help, and if there's anything further I can do, do not hesitate to ask.

Hi John,
good to hear from you! Actually, I was just thinking about e-mailing you the other day. Everything is going well. I am fully legal now, have my alien card, and am pretty glad the whole process is over. Tomorrow, James goes to Japan to get his VISA, and he is a little worried about it because he has to go alone. But, I am sure it will be fine.
The school has been good, and our schedules are fairly reasonable. A couple of teachers have been taking their holidays in the last few weeks, and so we have had to take on some extra classes, but other than that, it's fine. We are now really enjoying where we live, we've gotten used to our TINY apartment, and I am glad to be back here. I actually had a question to ask you. The other day, I was wondering about something in our contracts, and then I realized that somehow, the e-mail you sent me with the contracts attached had been deleted, and now I can't find my contract anywhere. Do you happen to still have a copy or file that you could send me?
Anyway, I hope things have been going more smoothly for you. I know the process of getting us over here was not easy, and so I hope you are not having that kind of trouble with any more people. Thanks again for all the hard work you did to find us a great place to work in Korea! Take care,

Hello John,
I thought that it was about time to send you an email. Devon and I have settled into Korea nicely. We are in a small town that takes app. 20 minutes to walk around. The people here have made us feel very welcome and a few have been showing us sites. Teaching is becoming easier as we are setting into a schedule of sorts. We have toured around a little bit in Seoul and are becoming used to the subway.
We would both like to thank you very much for arranging these positions for us. We are thinking about taking up some sort of activity I think that it will be Taekwondo. We will be in contact with you if we have any troubles.
If you would like updates of our experiences just let us know.
Thank You Cory Laferriere: University of Saskatchewan
The only major concerns I have are ones about the slight possiblitity of nuclear war with North Korea, but there isn't really anything anyone can do about that.
Thanks for your help in getting me such a good job!

Hi, John
Going to foreign lands isn’t what it used to be when I was a child: we had to pack clothes for two years: for children you just don’t know how much they’ll grow. Mail took forever, shipping goods took even longer. We didn’t have phones overseas. Now one just hooks up to the internet, there is almost overnight courier delivery and McDonalds is everywhere. As a kid the only familiar things I saw was Coca Cola and Volkswagen.
I guess the school will be in touch with you with a report on my progress.
Thank you, Gail
The school is about a five minute walk from my apartment.
I like the people here, and the children are really cute!
In about a month, I will try to learn Korean, Gail :York University
I am here safe and well. They kind of forgot to build the school - not built or open yet. I have a temporary appartment with a local lady. The people are very kind and we are doing lots of planning before opening the school. I like it here. Thanks for your help.

Hi John,
Well, I made it to Jinju. It has been raining constantly for the last three days, but I think i like this place very much. I am going to a BBQ tonight to meet the other foreigners. My first day at work was great. You don't have to worry about sending people here to teach. The Korean teachers plan all our lessons for us and the resources are well organized and extensive. I have been quite impressed so far.
I have attached the document you wanted edited.
I hear you have been in contact with my fiend Neil Lough. I can tell you that he is one of my most trustworthy, dependable friends. He will make a fantastic ESL teacher. It would be really great if he could come here to Jinju. My director's other school is called SISA, and its teacher is leaving at the end of June. So, if there is any possibility of getting him here, we would both appreciate it very much. If there is anything I can do here to make this easier, just let me know.
Also, John, I am going to a seminar in Busan this weekend being given by an international contract lawyer. Apparantly he was shocked to hear some of the stories about how some ESL teachers have been abused by their employers. He is going to let us know what we can do if we ever feel like we are being cheated. I thought that you might be interested to learn what he tells us. I'll send you an e-mail with anything useful I may learn.
Again, thank you for all your efforts on my behalf. I think that I will really like it here in Jinju and am very grateful to you for finding this place for me.
Talk to you soon,
Michael: Bachelor of Education ?English, University of Alberta

Hi John,
I have been in S. Korea know for a week and I am having a great time. Thank-you for giving me the opportunity to work at E.C.C. Sanbon. I have been welcomed with open arms and I could not have asked for a better placement. I will be in touch to let you know how things are going. Thanks Again
Dan from Ottawa Canada.
Hello John,
I am emailing you to let you know that things are still good here in South
Korea. Thanks again for getting me this job. I will be in touch.
Dan
I have spoken with ENS in Suwon. The foreign teacher with whom I spoke was also from Vancouver! I spoke with Eugene and he seemed very nice. I really appreciate the high pay that you have negotiated, the kindness of the teachers at the school and the low preparation time for classes. My hesitations are the location and the fact that the students are younger and their English at lower levels. What I like about Poly (and another school that I am considering, Mido) is that the curriculum involves a lot of reading and writing and it is based on regular American curriculum, rather than standard ESL. Thank you for telling me what you know about that school.
I will make a final decision within the next one or two days. I will let you use your own discretion to decide what to do next. Also, I'm sure I will have more questions for Gina, the other foreign teacher (she has given me her email address). In the meantime, I want to thank you for being one of the best recruiters with whom I have worked. You have been patient, understanding, diligent, and you have seriously considered my needs and concerns as a foreign teacher. I respect that very highly, especially as many recruiters are irresponsible and inconsiderate. I would highly recommend you to others. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Sincerely,
Rhonda
Thank you for your email and advice. I appreciate your honesty. I will do my best to check out the school on my own. I have written to EK to ask a number of questions regarding the school and am waiting for a response at his time. Since (as you know) I am anxious to leave for Korea and begin a position, I believe that I will in fact take this offer. I do not have any hesitation in being the only foreign teacher at the school, this does not bother me. But, as you said, it would be good to speak to the teacher whom I will be replacing. I have asked EPIK to provide their contact information so that I may speak to this person. I hope that I will be able to do this
soon.
I hope to have answers to my questions (from EK) soon and have a signed conract as soon as possible. I will keep you posted on my decision and what I learn from EK. Since you have been so helpful, I will keep you informed of my situation so that you will know what EPI is like. (If you would like?)
I hope this email finds you well. Thank you again for your continued assistance. Of all the recruiters that I have been working with, your assistance has been the most thorough and helpful.
Warm regards,
James Raycraft
The arrangements of the position are quite acceptable and I am very excited to begin the job. I am leaving for Korea on the 20th and will begin teaching on Monday the 24th. I will be working at the ELC (English Language Center) located in Hwa Myungdong, in Busan.
Thank you for your time and assistance. It was wonderful to work with you. I am sorry that we were not able to finalize a position for me through your company. However, your advice and assistance were very helpful throughout this entire process. I appreciate your help.
I hope this email finds you well. Best of luck to you.
Warm regards,
James Raycraft
I was warned about being around people that were
"Korean bashers" as they
will make the experience here less than what it should be. I have also aquainted
myself
with the Irish girl from the school. Her and her boyfriend live in the next
apartment and they are very great people to be around. Also,
I wanted to mention to you that I had
recommended to a friend (Ryan Connors) that he should be touch with you about
coming over here. He said he had contacted you and he was in the midst of
signing a contract with D in Daegue. He is highly recommended by me. I went to
high school and university together. He also trained me at a job in high school
at McDonald's.
He is very nice and would be an asset to a school here. He is respectful and
kind. I would very much appreciate his company in this city and throughout the
rest of my experience here in Korea. I also think he mentioned his girlfriend
wanted to come over. She is a sweet girl. Ryan is from my neighborhood in Saint
John. You would not
regret at all stting him up with a job here.
I have adjusted well to life in Korea. I mostly appreciate the street markets. I
find
myself taking long walks around the city enjoying all the food and little shops.
I have met many foreign teachers here. My Irish friends have many connections
here and they have introduced me to many people from all over the world. There
are many Canadians here as well. I was trained by a guy from Canada. He was very
nice and we have
stayed in touch. There is also another Canadian that lives in my building and we
get along great. I have met a few Korean people as well. They are very kind and
have a great concern for my well-being here. As you said, the Korean girls are
absolutley beautiful and very nice. I am slowly learning a bit of the Korean
language. It's very challenging but I enjoy the challenge.
Again, thank you for everything Feel free to get back
to me at any time concerning anything. Thanks.

At the time of my last correspondence with you I was a bit hesitant to take this position as EK was not answering any of my questions, however, this has all changed. Since I agreed to take the position EK has been quite helpful and very prompt in answering all my questions and addressing all my concerns.
We wish you every success in your present job search and your future endeavors.
