(Letter 1)

Hi, John
Well, this is an adventure for me. I have packed and have probably packed too much, too many books and just some of my art supplies.

Going to foreign lands isn’t what it used to be when I was a child: we had to pack clothes for two years: for children you just don’t know how much theyl grow. Mail took forever, shipping goods took even longer. We didn’t have phones overseas. Now one just hooks up to the internet, there is almost overnight courier delivery and McDonalds is everywhere. As a kid the only familiar things I saw was Coca Cola and Volkswagen.

I guess the school will be in touch with you with a report on my progress.

Thank you,

Gail

(Letter 2)

Hello, John
Korea is a wonderful surprise. YeongJu is a small city, clean and quiet. I have a nice little apartment, with a big TV. Last weekend I visited Andong, next weekend I'm going to Seoul. The school is about a five minute walk from my apartment. I like the people here, and the children are really cute! In about a month, I will try to learn Korean,

Cheers,

Gail
